Stoneware - This commemorative handmade stoneware was created by Francie O'Leary from the Old Alley Gallery in Carroll, Iowa on a potter's wheel using a combination of brown and white stoneware clays. Francie incises the words "Templeton, Iowa, Est. 1882" on the pottery changing the shape slightly. A glaze is applied to the inside and the rim after the pottery is dried for approximately 1 to 2 weeks. With a small brush and a lot of patience Francie paints the inside of each letter by hand. The pot is fired in a kiln for about 14 hours at 2200 degrees. The kiln is cooled approximately 2 dys before the product is considered finished. When Francie says this pottery is entirely handmade, she's not exaggerating.
