Welcome to Templeton
The
town was founded in
1882 and the local community is proud of its strong history. Many people
know the town for "Templeton
Rye," which was popular during the great depression. Although that time
is past, Templeton has a great deal to offer and has made itself known as a
community on the move.
Housing
Templeton is a rapidly growing community of nearly 350 residents, who take
great pride in their homes. New home construction has been constant over the
past twenty years and the city recently completed the
West Ridge Housing
Development. Eighteen lots were established in this new subdivision,
complete with paved streets and underground utilities. The subdivision is
conveniently located near Holy Trinity
School and Sacred Heart Church, a beautiful old church constructed in
the classic design of many European churches of the past.
Industrial &
Commercial Expansion
Industrial and
commercial expansion has been the focus of the Templeton Area
Development Corporation (TADC) since 1992. The corporation saw the
construction of five new businesses in its first commercial/industrial park
in just three short years. Work on the second such development began in
1998.
Business
The business community in Templeton is strong. Templeton is home to a number
of businesses including restaurants, a bank, a veterinarian, agricultural
suppliers, automobile repair services and numerous building, electrical,
plumbing and earthwork contractors. These businesses have provided a strong
economic base for the area and many have recently expanded. The
local business
community also makes up nearly half the employment base of local
residents.
Community
Templeton has much to offer residents of the community. The summer
recreation program provides activities for local children including arts
in the park, swimming lessons, weekly swimming bus trips to Manning and golf
and tennis lessons. A little league program is also popular throughout the
summer months. Templeton is located only fifteen minutes from four beautiful
golf courses. Many fraternal organizations and clubs are popular in
Templeton, including the Knights of Columbus, and Senior Social Club.
Families in Templeton have the choice between Kuemper Catholic School system,
Carroll Community Public Schools or Manning Community Schools, all of which
are academic leaders in the state.
Services
Local residents are proud of the many services available in the city. The
Templeton Community Fire Department and First Responders are comprised of dedicated and hard
working local people who provide second-to-none emergency response services.
The first responders is one of only a handful of small departments with
certified EMTs on staff.
Telephone, Internet and
cable television service is provided by Templeton
Telephone Company, which has been a progressive, locally-owned and
operated company for more than 90 years. In 1993, the city council worked
with the neighboring community of Manning to install natural gas service in
Templeton. Electricity is provided by MidAmerican Energy.
As you can see, the small community of Templeton has a tremendous amount to
offer. Take a look for yourself and we will be glad to have you!
